Each year, Canadians join together in November to celebrate veterans. During National Veterans’ Week (November 5-11), hundreds of commemorative ceremonies and events take place across the country and around the world to recognize the achievements of veterans and military members, and honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

As part of National Veterans’ Week, Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members volunteer to give presentations at schools and other organizations across Canada. These sessions help Canadians, especially our country’s youth, learn more about the roles and stories of serving CAF members.

Hello. I’m Colonel Éric Charron. I’m the 17 Wing Commander here in Winnipeg.

I just had a chance to do a ceremony with the students of Greenway School here, part of Remembrance Day Week in 2018. And it’s very important that we get out there. I feel very strongly about this. It’s a chance for us to connect with the community, it’s a chance for us to respond to their request of wanting to know more, as to why we wear the poppy, why it’s important to us, what does it represent and what does it mean today to be someone in uniform.
