Good Afternoon

I recently had the privilege to represent Canada at the 2019 Warrior Games, an event for ill and injured soldiers, hosted by the US Department of Defence.  Similar to Invictus, these games and an amazing opportunity for those on a journey of recovery.  Our own “Soldier On” program organized the team and 36 members (veterans and serving members) attended this event where athletes participated in 13 events.  These events afforded all of us the opportunity to experience adaptive sports such as wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, sit volleyball, powerlifting, indoor rowing, track, field, swimming, shooting (pistol and rifle), archery, and cycling.  The long term goals are to raise funds to purchase adaptive sports equipment, raise awareness of this opportunity for ill and injured soldiers/veterans, and ultimately have the resources for numerous adaptive sports training camps.

The reason for this year’s event is to raise funds for equipping future Soldier On teams; the Warrior Games and Invictus Games 2020 teams specifically.  They need this equipment to be available leading up to the main events so they can take full advantage of their opportunity to put their best performance forward once they compete.  We want to enhance this experience for all of the athletes as well as develop adaptive sports for veterans and serving members.  In order to do this, we need to have the equipment for local, regional and national training camps and/or Team Canada preparations.  This equipment is not cheap, so this event is going to be an annual one and we want to see it grow.

This year, the inaugural Charity Motorcycle Ride and Classic Car Rally will be in 18 regions in Ontario.  Whether you ride or drive a classic car or not, you can buy a ticket in support of this cause and win a motorcycle (Harley Davidson or Triumph) or the early-bird prize of 2500.00 with Harley Davidson.  Tickets are $50.00 and prizes are available to anyone in Canada.  We have an agreement with the dealership to have the bikes shipped free of charge anywhere in Canada, so you don’t have to be in Ontario to win.  As well, this year the rides are approx. 300 kms in 18 regions and will involve 188 Royal Canadian Legions.  This will be an amazing event bringing communities together to help out our ill and injured Warriors.

We are also accepting donations, and will be issuing Tax Receipts for donations above 10.00.  Sanctioned by Soldier On, this event’s Tax Receipt will be mailed out by the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services – Soldier On.  I have pledge sheets to ensure your mailing address is provided so you get the receipt.  ALSO, if you wish to participate as a donation collector, for every 100.00 you collect you will be given a free ballot for the bike draws.  I have attached the Donation Collection Form if this is something that interests you.

Lastly, we are looking for participants, volunteers, and sponsors.  So please feel free to share with motorcycle and classic car enthusiasts you know, and if you wish to volunteer on 21 and/or 28 September please let me know.
