Innovation will take centre stage at Beyond 2020 fairs taking place across the country starting May 22.

The Beyond 2020 (previously Blueprint 2020) fairs showcase innovations and everyday best practices focusing on the mindsets and behaviors that can help organizations and employees become more agile, inclusive, and better equipped. In the National Capital Region (NCR), the fair will be co-hosted with the Rideau Hall Foundation in celebration of Canada Innovation Week, and will feature two made-in-Defence innovations.

The Defence Team will host booths in Ottawa and in regions across Canada alongside with other partners from the government, non-governmental organizations, academia, and the public sector.

At the NCR fair that is happening on May 22 at the National Arts Centre from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, DND will showcase the following innovations:

  • Virtual Recruiting: Using a virtual reality headset, this newly-developed tool provides potential recruits a firsthand experience of a career in the Canadian Armed Forces.
  • Goniometer: This highly specialized camera uses a machine learning algorithm to identify objects. Through this technology, an image sensor (such as a smartphone) and light source can be moved to any angular position in the hemisphere around a target object.

A number of other innovations will be highlighted in the regional fairs across Canada throughout May and June. These events are open to public, and can be attended free of cost, however, some events require registration ahead of time.

Come join thousands of other public servants in May and June to learn about how we can all contribute to a Public Service that is more agile, inclusive, and better equipped.
