DT News: exercise NOBLE SKYWAVE and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
Transcript
(Shelley) The Canadian Armed Forces and other nations recently competed to see who can best establish high-frequency radio communications around the world.
(Jeff) Conducted under exercise NOBLE SKYWAVE, military teams from all over the international community took part.
(S) The 24 hour/day, 5-day exercise consisted of several phases that incorporated scoring multipliers. The further the distance, the more points earned. Time zones covered between contact teams garnered additional points and the establishment of data links added to the overall score.
(J) The Communications and Electronics Branch and the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment organize the annual competition to provide a venue for interoperability amongst the international community in this domain.
(S) High-frequency radio communications help bridge visual gaps during operations. For example, the communication of tactical information between units outside the contested environment.
Each year, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence helps bring awareness to ending violence against women, LGBTQ2 and gender non-binary people.
(J) The 16 Days began on November 25th, and is marked with the theme and hashtag #OurActionsMatter.
(S) This year’s campaign is especially relevant, as 2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the deaths of 14 young women from l’École Polytechnique de Montréal, who lost their lives in an act of gender-based violence.
(J) Defence is committed to taking action to prevent and address gender-based violence. In addition to ongoing efforts to eliminate sexual misconduct through Operation HONOUR, additional support is provided through Family Crisis Teams and sexual assault response centres in military communities.

(J) Did you know Defence’s information management group has a survey to solicit user-feedback after using the Self-Service Portal?
(S) With your feedback the group can better drive changes and improve services. I know I’ll be sure to complete the survey before closing my next ticket!
(J) Me too. Hey, it takes less than five minutes. Visit the related links for more information.
