Welcome back to Defence Team News, I’m Lt(N) Jamie Bresolin.

And I’m Nicole Power. Here are the headlines at Defence.

Last month, Defence Research and Development Canada hosted Exercise PRECISE RESPONSE. This chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defence training exercise provided the Canadian Armed Forces with the opportunity to train in a multinational environment, alongside NATO Allies and other partner nations.

Taking place at Canadian Forces Base Suffield, thirty four Canadian soldiers from 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, based out of Edmonton, Alberta, comprised the Canadian Army’s contribution to the exercise.

As outlined in Canada’s Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, this exercise positions Canada as globally engaged, anticipatory of emerging threats, and able to assist other government departments and law enforcement agencies in support of Canada’s national security.

Two Royal Canadian Navy ships are currently visiting communities along the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes this summer, as part of the annual Great Lakes Deployment.

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships Moncton and Oriole are this year’s RCN ambassadors, conducting activities such as guided ship tours and demonstrations.

The Great Lakes deployment aims to inform Canadians about their Navy and its various roles. These include protecting Canada by exercising sovereignty in our nation’s waters, preventing conflict by deploying around the world to strengthen partnerships, and safeguarding international maritime peace and security.

The 40-member team that will be heading to the 2018 Invictus Games, taking place this October in Sydney, Australia, were announced last week during the second and final training camp before the competition.

Taking place at Canadian Forces Base Halifax and 12 Wing Shearwater, team members from across Canada trained in all 11 sports that will be featured at this year’s Invictus Games. Bravo Zulu to those selected to represent Team Canada, and best of luck to all!

That’s it for us. Thank you so much for watching. See you next time…
