The first graduating class of 16 students from eight of Canada’s top universities have completed their placements at Defence Research and Development Canada’s (DRDC’s) Ottawa Research Centre.

In support of Canada’s Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, the promotion of diversity, encouraging student outreach and effective succession planning, the student outreach program delivered through the Ottawa Research Centre is flourishing.

Each year, the Ottawa Research Centre hires young experts for long-term co-op placements. These placements of 12 to 16 months provide an excellent opportunity for students to experience what working in the space and cyber domains in the defence sector is like.

The graduating group of students have contributed to projects ranging from space situational awareness, to radar and electronic warfare, automated computer defence and operational/capability augmentation. Actively participating in professional development programs, mentoring, and individual and team projects, these young scientists are jointly publishing, promoting defence research, and empowering international collaboration efforts. Congratulations to the group!
