Her Excellency: Hello, my name is Julie Payette. I am the Governor General of Canada and the Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Armed Forces, and I am going to take the 60 second challenge with my astronaut training helmet. So, here we go. Three, two, one, and lift off.
- What does the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief do?
Work with the government and showcase the troops. Very important.
- Tell us a fun fact about you.
When I was in the selection for astronauts in 1992, we were to report at a certain time for the selection, and I arrived late because of traffic in Ottawa, and I’d given a lift to a certain gentleman called Chris Hadfield. So, he had arrived late too because of me.
- What is it like representing the Canadian Armed Forces?
A real honour.
- What’s the coolest part about being an astronaut?
Seeing the planet from above. It looks like a marble on the back of the darkness.
- What challenges remain today for women?
To work and take care of your family at the same time.
- Favourite line in O Canada?
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
