In March, a pair of boots was placed in a VIA Rail train. They represented the Canadians who traded in their civilian shoes for combat boots to serve in the Second World War.

They began a cross-country journey in Vancouver. After travelling over 5,000 kilometres across Canada, on June 5th this humble pair of black boots reached its final destination, Halifax, Nova Scotia, where a wreath-laying ceremony was held.

This is part of the overall commemoration of this week’s 75th anniversary of the June 6, 1944 D-Day landings and the beginning of the Battle of Normandy.
