Happy 50th Anniversary to the Official Languages Act!
2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Official Languages Act. The Act recognizes the equal status and use of French and English in all federal institutions. Our two official languages are woven into the Canadian fabric.
The Government of Canada, the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces are proud to highlight this anniversary, which reaffirms the key role of our two official languages in fostering inclusion and diversity across Canada.
To commemorate this important milestone, leading up to Linguistic Duality Day and as part of its ongoing commitment to linguistic duality within the Defence Team, Director Official Languages is launching a “Spotlight on Official Languages” article series which will include:
• June 2019: Message from the DM and CDS: The Official Languages Act – Why celebrate?
• July 2019: Official Languages in the Defence Team
• August 2019: Focus on Language of Work
• September 2019: Linguistic Duality Day and series wrap-up
Be sure to stay tuned!
In the meantime, information on official languages within the Defence Team is available by visiting the Director Official Languages intranet site.
