#GetLoud during Mental Health Week 2019
Mental health is about more than being happy all the time. It’s about feeling good about who you are, having balance in your life, and managing life’s highs and lows. From May 6-12, join the Defence Team in supporting the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Mental Health Week (internal link), and #GetLoud about what mental health really is.
During this week – and every week for that matter – military and civilian Defence Team members are encouraged to reflect about their mental health, learn how to improve personal well-being and resiliency, and talk openly about the topic.
Just like physical health, maintaining positive mental health (internal link) is an ongoing process that requires consistent work through self-care. Taking the time to enjoy favourite activities or try something new, connect with family and friends, and keep active are just a few small ideas that can have a big impact.
During Mental Health Week, managers, employees, and organizations across the Defence Team are invited to share resources and organize activities within their units/teams to help promote the importance of mental health. The Mental Health Week Toolkit (internal link) contains a list of suggested activities and shareable resources to aid in the planning process. Information on national activities will be shared in the coming weeks.
The Canadian Mental Health Association introduced Mental Health Week in 1951 to raise awareness in Canada about mental health. Held each year during the first full week in May, it has become a popular awareness week offering millions of Canadians practical ways to maintain and improve their well-being.
