Safety is a crucial component of every workforce and it is important for employers and employees to acknowledge its significance in order to promote safe operational environments. So this month, help spread the word by joining the conversation about Occupational Health and Safety!

What is Occupational Health and Safety Training for CAF/DND ?

The General Safety program offers numerous in class and online courses. Among these figure the WHIMS online course aimed at providing information used to protect individuals exposed to or likely to be exposed to a hazardous material in the workplace. All CAF members and DND civilian employees, who may be exposed to hazardous materials, which includes everything from toner and ink cartridges to chemical substances, must be WHMIS 2015 trained. Similarly, the Prevention of Violence in the Workplace online course is also compulsory for the entire workforce in order to raise awareness on this important issue. As for the in-class training, General Safety offers the Safety Management Course, Safety Legislation Course, Safety Program Evaluator’s Course, Occupational Health Course and the Hazardous Occurrence Investigator’s Course. All prerequisites for each course is listed in its description on the General Safety Training page.

Resources and tools

The directorate of General Safety provides a number of resources and tools to support every employee and member of the CAF/DND workforce. Indeed, different services and information can be found on the Defence Team intranet on the General Safety page, including programs and manuals such as the Hazardous Materials Safety and Management as well as the General Safety Policy Program. Furthermore, a variety of online and in-class courses on different subjects concerning General Safety are accessible through the General Safety Training page.
