(S) This week, we’re pleased to be joined by Able Seaman Paula Barrios Balladares.

(P) Thanks, Shelley. As a member of the Latin American Heritage Committee here at Defence, I wanted to remind everyone that this month is Latin-American Heritage month.

I hope you’ll take the time to remember, celebrate, and learn about the contributions of the Latin American community to Canada and the Defence Team.

(S) This year, International Conflict Resolution Day falls on October 17th. This day highlights the growing movement toward early, local, and informal resolution of all kinds of conflicts, from disagreements between nations, to conflicts between individuals.

(P) To talk about conflict resolution at Defence, here’s the Director General for Integrated Conflict and Complaint Management, Alain Gauthier.

(AG) Efficient and effective conflict resolution is one of the cornerstones of healthy workplaces: ensuring individuals interact and cooperate as a team, free from harassment, exclusion, bullying, or any other interpersonal conflict.  If you’re experiencing conflict of any kind in your workplace, whether with others or within your work, the Integrated Conflict and Complaint Management program can help you take action. Visit us at one of our 16 offices, in person or online. Don’t accept unresolved conflict in your work life. Find your way ahead.

(S) Are you a Canadian Armed Forces member interested in sharing your story during Veterans’ Week?

(P) CAF members are encouraged to give presentations at schools and other community organizations from November 5 to 11 to highlight their work and the work of all veterans, past and present, who have served our country.

(S) Please visit the related links for more information on how to register as a speaker. If you have already agreed to give a presentation, please include the information in your CAF speaker application form.

(P) In keeping with this year’s theme “Faces of Freedom” put a face to your extraordinary service and tell your story.

(S) Before we go, October is also Women’s History Month, celebrating the contributions and achievements of impactful women and girls across the country and here at Defence.

(P) Women in National Defence have a legacy of determination and drive that continues to bring about important changes through persistence, courage, initiative, innovation, and inclusion.

(S) October 11th was the International Day of the Girl – a day meant to highlight the needs and challenges that girls face, while promoting girls empowerment. Thank you to all CAF members for the exceptional work you do in helping to secure women’s and girls’ rights around the globe.
