(S) April 4th will mark the 70th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, more commonly known as NATO.

(J) We recently spoke with a Canadian Armed Forces member who works with NATO to learn more about this important milestone.

(L) NATO is a cornerstone of Canada’s international security policy and is one of our most important multilateral relationships. Every NATO operation since 1949 has included a Canadian component. Today, NATO comprises 29 nations—30 once the accession protocol for the Republic of North Macedonia is ratified. Canada is one of NATO’s key contributors and main beneficiaries. For instance, Canada was selected to lead the international battlegroup in Latvia as part of NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in the Baltic region. This important milestone anniversary will be celebrated around the world, including at events such as the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Washington, D.C.
