(J) Canada’s Air Task Force in Romania recently completed its four-month deployment with NATO’s enhanced Air Policing.

The Task Force is the air component of Operation REASSURANCE, Canada’s contribution to NATO’s assurance and deterrence measures in Central and Eastern Europe.

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Ville de Québec also recently completed its six-month deployment as part of the operation. HMCS Toronto has left Halifax to take its place as the maritime component.

As outlined in Canada’s Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, Canada is committed to the principle of collective defence of the Alliance, which is at the very heart of NATO’s founding treaty. These task forces demonstrate Canada’s ongoing commitment to international security and cooperation.

(S) The contract awards for the first call for proposal under the Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security Program – or IDEaS – were recently highlighted at an announcement at the Université de Sherbrooke.

Defence Minister Sajjan was joined by Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development, to announce the award of $26.8 million dollars for 160 contracts from the first 16 challenges identified last April.

Over 600 proposals were received under the first call for proposals, all aimed at helping solve some of Canada’s most difficult defence and security challenges.

As part of Canada’s Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, IDEaS is a twenty-year, $1.6 billion dollar investment into Canada’s innovation community.
