(S) A diverse team comprised of officer cadets and graduates from the Royal Military College of Canada participated in the 2019 Henley Royal Regatta in England.

(J) With 2019 marking 100 years since Canadian Armed Forces participation in the event, we spoke to some of the competitors about how they are honoring the past through diversity and teamwork.

(CP) This year it’s the first time that male and female competitors will be rowing in the same boat, which is an honour and I think it represents where we specifically, as Canadians, are moving towards with gender equality.

There are very limited opportunities where us, as Canadians and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, get to actually walk the exact places and feel the exact same feelings that those who came before us did and we’re about to do just that.

It’s been great working with the crew, the other members, the cadets. They’ve really shown me what teamwork is. And to be here on the Thames and to row in my very first regatta, a mixed boat, in a new sport, it feels amazing.
