(S) Welcome back to Defence Team News, I’m Shelley Van Hoof.

(D) And I’m MCpl Deborah Graf. Here are the headlines at Defence.

(D) As a busy 2018 season winds down, the SkyHawks, the CAF’s Parachute Team, is now recruiting for the 2019 team.

The SkyHawks perform thrilling parachute performances throughout Canada and internationally in front of more than two million spectators annually.

We recently spoke with a member of the SkyHawks team to learn more.

(S) Hi, I’m Master Corporal Stu Ayres, a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team, commonly known as the SkyHawks, and we’re recruiting more people for the 2019 season.

The Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team is open to all three elements across the Canadian Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force. Also, members from the Regular and Reserve Force, as long as you’re minimum trade qualified for Non-Commissioned Members and a Second Lieutenant.

Before joining the team you’ll need a minimum of an “A” civilian skydiving license with 50 freefall jumps or a military freefall parachutist qualification.

(D) If you’re a CAF member interested in joining for the 2019 season, contact the SkyHawks today via email at [email protected] or through Twitter, Facebook or Instagram @SkyHawksCanada.

(S) The National Moose Hide Campaign is coming up on October 18th. The campaign supports efforts to end violence against women and children through joining in a one-day fast and wearing a small piece of moose hide.

Defence Team members across the country are encouraged to gather to fast in their communities, and wear a piece of moose hide as a symbol of their support for the campaign. You can get a pin by ordering directly from the Moose Hide campaign website. They will also be distributed at various DND buildings in the National Capital Region in the coming weeks. A National Gathering and Day of Fasting event will take place at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa on the 18th. Defence Team members in the NCR are encouraged to attend.

A reminder to CAF members, that as per rules and regulations, pins are not allowed on uniforms. However, the moose hide pins can be highlighted in offices or worn on civilian clothing and lanyards.

For more information on the campaign itself, visit the related links.

(S) Before we go, a reminder that managers are required to complete and record Mid-Year Review Exercises with civilian employees by October 30th.

(D) This information can be entered directly into the Public Service Performance Management app. For more information, visit the related links.

(S) That’s it for us. Thank you so much for watching.  See you next time…
