(J) Welcome back to Defence Team News, I’m Lt(N) Jeff Lura.

(S) And I’m Shelley Van Hoof. Here are the headlines at Defence.

(J) Exercise ARDENT DEFENDER wraps up this week at Canadian Forces Base Borden and 4th Canadian Division Training Centre in Meaford, Ontario.

Participants took part in realistic training that challenged search teams, explosive ordnance disposal operators, and command staff in realistic scenarios, including a two-day scenario in the Municipality of Meaford. The participation of local and county emergency responders, and regional and provincial police added to both the realism – and the complexity – of this scenario.

As the largest counter-explosive threat training to take place in Canada, participation from over 20 nations and observers from the United Nations and NATO made it one of the most multinational exercises hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces.

Canada’s Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, lays out a clear plan for modernizing the suite of improvised explosive device detect and defeat capabilities required to operate in the modern security environment.

(S) It’s game on for this year’s Canadian Armed Forces Sports Day, taking place on October 19th.

CAF members and the extended CAF community can celebrate the power of sport, fitness and well-being by registering individually or as a team.

The annual CAF Sports Awards Ceremony will take place one day before, on October 18th, at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, honouring the excellence of CAF athletes, coaches and officials.

Congratulations to all award recipients and be sure to visit the related links to register, get out, and play!

(J) Before we go, seven Canadian Armed Forces members recently participated in the Long Course Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on October 13th.

(S) The course included an approximately 4 km swim, a 180 km bike ride and a marathon run. Bravo Zulu to all the athletes!

(J) That’s it for us. Thank you so much for watching. See you next time…
