(S) Welcome back to Defence Team News, I’m Shelley Van Hoof.

(P) And I’m Lt(N) Phil Henry. Here are the headlines at Defence.

(P) The Royal Canadian Air Force recently marked the 78th anniversary of the Battle of Britain with a ceremony held in Gatineau, Quebec.

Veterans, Royal Canadian Air Force personnel and Royal Canadian Air Cadets, accompanied by the Central Band of the CAF, paraded to commemorate Canadian and Allied sacrifices. This pivotal Second World War battle took place over southeastern Great Britain and the English Channel. More than 100 Canadian pilots and numerous ground crew participated in the battle.

The ceremony featured a fly-past of both vintage and current RCAF aircraft, in honour of those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice throughout the summer and fall of 1940. Local ceremonies were also held at bases and wings across the country.

(S) The CAF recently deployed an Air Task Force of approximately 135 personnel and five CF-18 Hornets to Romania to support NATO enhanced Air Policing as part of Operation REASSURANCE, Canada’s contribution to NATO assurance and deterrence measures in Central and Eastern Europe.

The CF-18 Hornets will augment the Romanian Air Force’s air policing capabilities during this September to December deployment. A NATO certification ceremony was recently held to declare full operational capability for the Air Task Force, in the presence of the Romanian Defence Minister.

NATO enhanced Air Policing has been part of its assurance and deterrence measures since 2014. These measures demonstrate the collective resolve of Allies, the defensive nature of NATO, and help deter the threat of potential aggression against NATO Allies.

(S) Before we go, the Operation HONOUR website has been enhanced and updated to help CAF members understand, prevent, and respond to sexual misconduct.

(S) That’s it for us. Thank you so much for watching. See you next time…
