DGIEES returns old building plaque to Esquimalt Fire Services team
On 28 February 2019, Director General Infrastructure and Environment Engineering Services (DGIEES) has the opportunity to return a piece of memorabilia retrieved from a recent demolition project at CFB Esquimalt. Marty Frank, Director General of Engineering Services, presented Geordie Douglas, Deputy Fire Chief at CFB Esquimalt, with the building plaque from the base’s old Dockyard Fire Hall.
The Esquimalt Fire Services Team moved into a new building alongside the Esquimalt Base Command Post in spring 2013, but the old fire hall was retained to accommodate contractors from Defence Construction Canada (DCC) who were delivering Phase 5 of the Fleet Maintenance Facility (FMP) Cape Breton Shop Consolidation Project until just recently.
According to DGIEES Project Manager Clive Orford, the next major projects at CFB Esquimalt will be to replace the old “A” Jetty as well as the recently demolished “B” Jetty at the Esquimalt Dockyard.
