A sniper team from 3^rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI) headed down to Georgia in October to compete in the Annual International Sniper Competition.

The competition included 31 other Sniper Teams from 11 different countries: Australia, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the United States. The teams originate from a wide range of agencies and organizations including military and law enforcement agencies.

During the competition, teams engage in a gauntlet of rigorous physical, mental, and endurance events that test the range of sniper skills including long-range marksmanship, target detection, reconnaissance and reporting, and the ability to move with stealth and concealment.

In addition, communication and decision-making skills are challenged under stress and fatigue, comfort zones of marksmanship precision are stretched, and capabilities are put to the ultimate test.

The ultimate goal of the International Sniper Competition is to foster healthy competition, build camaraderie within the international sniper community, and share lessons learnt, tactics, techniques, and equipment.

At the end of the week-long competition, the team from 3 PPCLI finished in a very respectable sixth place, demonstrating that Canadian snipers are world class in what they do.
