Amnesty Extended as CCFR goes to Supreme Court

Ottawa, June 9, 2026
In a statement by Public Safety Canada today, the Liberal government has extended the amnesty for owners of firearms affected by the ASFCP, out past the eventual decision out of the Supreme Court of Canada as the CCFR gears up for the fight.
You can read it HERE
“In March 2026, the Supreme Court of Canada agreed to hear an appeal challenging the May 2020 prohibition of assault-style firearms. In light of this, the Amnesty Orders have been extended and set to expire 90 days following the date the Supreme Court of Canada renders its decision, which is expected next year. By extending the amnesty period, the Government is providing certainty to individual owners and businesses that they will continue to be protected from criminal liability while the Supreme Court hears the appeal and renders its decision”
Our statement on this important development:
“The CCFR welcomes the news that the federal government is extending the amnesty protecting gun owners and businesses from prosecutions associated with their ill-fated gun bans and compensation program.
We suspect that the government realized that a defeat at the Supreme Court of Canada after collecting guns and or prosecuting those in non-compliance would be an untenable position for the Mark Carney’s Liberals.
We look forward to presenting our case to Canada’s Supreme Court and achieving justice for law-abiding property owners and businesses”
With a hearing not likely to happen until January-April 2027 and a decision some months after that, followed by another 3 months, the amnesty could easily stretch out 6-12 months, likely next summer.
