60 Seconds with Chief Petty Officer Select Alan Ferraris, Mass Communications Specialist, U.S. Navy at RIMPAC 2018
Transcript
So who’s your favourite Canadian celebrity? My favourite Canadian celebrity is Keanu Reeves. I love his John Wick movies, both 1 and 2; preferably 2 right now.
Hi, my name is Chief Petty Officer Select Alan Ferraris with the United States Navy. I’m here on RIMPAC 2018, here to take the ’60 Second Challenge’.
- What do you hope to learn from Canada about RIMPAC?
Anything different from the United States Navy, because everyone talks about Canada, how it’s so awesome and green in there. I’ve been a witness to that. I just want to learn a lot of the cultures that they have that are different than ours. And hopefully we get to exchange a lot of our culture together.
- What are you the most looking forward to at RIMPAC?
Honestly, being able to visit the other countries’ militaries; being able to look on the different ships and talk to the different Forces out here supporting RIMPAC.
- What is the most valuable piece of advice you have received?
The most valuable piece of advice I have received is: As a leader it’s not about you anymore, it’s about your people who make you who you are.
- What is the coolest part of RIMPAC?
The coolest part is, honestly, being able to see the State of Hawaii, and do the snorkeling and hiking and endless hikes up Koko Head.
- And what do you like the most about Canadians?
Your accent of course. The whole ‘about’ thing. I used to be stationed with a Canadian military officer, and it was always interesting to hear him talk and teach.
Thank you. That’s it.
Off screen: Beauty.
CPO Ferraris: Good, yeah?
Off screen: Thank you very much.
CPO Ferraris: Talk too fast?
Off screen: No, it’s good!
