(S) The Royal Canadian Navy is currently visiting communities along the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes as part of this year’s annual Great Lakes Deployment.

Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Oriole is this year’s summer ambassador.

(J) The Great Lakes Deployment provides Canadians with a unique opportunity to tour one of Canada’s naval ships and to learn about life in the Royal Canadian Navy directly from sailors.

We spoke with Petty Officer First Class Adam Yardy, to learn more about what it’s like sailing with Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship Oriole.

(AY) I feel good. It’s nice to be onboard a ship that’s been meticulously cared for by so many hands. You get to see the public’s reaction. The Canadian public doesn’t always get to see the care we take in our vessels at sea and our sailors at sea. They see us more on the news. It’s nice to have Oriole in the public, alongside, answering questions about her, lead into why we have HMCS Oriole, we’re here to show that we have a Navy, we’re proud of our Navy, and that we get a chance to talk about our Navy and educate people about our Navy. Every time I get up in the morning, at sea is a good day on Oriole, there’s no other way to say it. Even in the roughest of days, right, it’s still a good day to be onboard.
