DT News: the 101st anniversary of the Memorial Cup and another special upcoming commemoration

(K) This year marks the 101st anniversary of the Memorial Cup, a Canadian Hockey League trophy dedicated to the memory of all fallen Canadian Armed Forces members.

(N) This historic relationship between the Memorial Cup and the CAF was recently highlighted through a series of activities during the 2019 Memorial Cup Hockey Tournament in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

(K) CAF members participated in events throughout the tournament, including a ship’s escort of the Memorial Cup onboard HMCS Glace Bay, a Forces Atlantic Day tour hosted by local Army, Navy and Air Force units, a CAF Confidence obstacle course, and a Gala Dinner at CFB Halifax.

(N) Local military members were also honoured at each hockey game and given a special jersey.

Bravo Zulu to the Canadian Hockey League teams who made it to the Memorial Cup.

Before we go, a reminder that the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy is coming up on June 6th.

(K) A Canadian contingent recently arrived in Courseulles-sur-Mer, France to prepare for a ceremony to take place at the Juno Beach Centre on the day of the anniversary.

(N) This ceremony will be livestreamed on the Canadian Armed Forces Facebook Page for viewers to watch online.
