Hi, I’m Commander Nancy Setchell, Commanding Officer, HMCS Charlottetown. I’ve got one minute to answer these questions.
- Why did you join the RCN?
I wanted to be the captain of a ship. I wanted to drive ships.
- What are your hobbies?
Driving boats and skiing and doing whatever my kids want to do.
- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Reykjavik, Iceland.
- What’s the biggest challenge of being a CO?
Being seasick, being away from the family, being away from home, but it’s all worth it.
- Tell us an interesting fun fact about yourself.
I played trombone for nine years and none of it very well.
- What’s something you’ve never done but wanted to do?
I want to see P!nk in concert in New York City.
- East coast or west coast?
I did most of my early training on the west coast and now, I’m an east coaster.
- Three words that best describe you.
I’m funny, I’m really passionate and I’m funny.
- What has been your most rewarding experience in the Canadian Armed Forces so far?
Driving replenishment at sea, seeing the whole ship working and the team work that we had this week.
