…And there’s probably some takes, right?  If I am correct?  Yes…

Hello. I’m Serge Cormier, the new Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, and I’m here to take the 60-second challenge. So, let’s go.

  1. What exactly does a Parliamentary Secretary do?

Well, the Parliamentary Secretary supports the Minister in everyday duties, and that could be in the House of Commons; during Question Period; by making announcements, such as on his behalf in the field; or by assisting in the relationship we have with our caucus members.

The work has a very broad scope and, again, we’re there to support the Minister in his everyday work.

  1. Who’s your hero?

Well, listen, I played a lot of sports when I was young, and I played hockey practically my entire youth and again as an adult. So for me, my hero, I think maybe, as for many other Canadians, it’s Wayne Gretzky.

  1. What’s it like working hand-in-hand with the Minister of National Defence?

Well, listen, it’s an honour for me to work with Minister Sajjan, who served in the Canadian Armed Forces. It will help me learn much more quickly about the subject matter. It’s a new area for me – the Department of National Defence and everything that goes with it.

  1. What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not at work?

Well, my favourite activity when I’m not at the office is to spend as much time as possible with my family. It’s not always easy. As you know, we have schedules that require a lot of travel between Ottawa and our riding. But it’s to spend as much time as possible with my family, and especially with my two daughters, Arianne and Chloé, whom I love very much. It’s because of them that I do this work – for their future. I love them very much.
