As a little girl, I remember being told that my grandad Ernie was a cook in the British Army during the Second World War. After the war, he continued his love of cooking by catering special events for loved ones and neighbours. I was a young girl when he passed away, but an “army cook” became a big part of who he was for me—a handsome man in his army uniform, and my grandad, who loved to cook.
