(S) Welcome back to Defence Team News, I’m Shelley Van Hoof.

(J) And I’m Lt(N) Jeff Lura. Here are the headlines at Defence.

(J) The Canadian Task Force recently declared full operational capacity to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali. The Canadian contingent will have the capacity to provide aeromedical evacuation and tactical airlift capability to transport troops, equipment, supplies, and food within Mali.

Access to logistical support and the safe delivery of people and materials are essential to these efforts and play a key role in the endurance of humanitarian and development activities in the country.

The Canadian Task Force is made up of 250 well-trained soldiers, sailors, air women and air men, along with three CH-147F Chinooks and five CH-146 Griffon helicopters to support the year-long mission.

(S) Fly the Flag Day recently took place on Parliament Hill, providing Team Canada with an opportunity to raise the Invictus Games flag and promote their participation in the upcoming Games, taking place this October in Sydney, Australia.

(R) Fly the Flag Day is an opportunity for all of the participating countries, the 18 participating countries in this year’s Invictus Games, to fly that Invictus Flag, which is a symbol of the unconquered spirit that all of the athletes possess.

Team Canada is preparing for the Games in Australia by working their butts off, to be quite frank. They’ve been at two training camps, the first training camp in April and the second in July, where they’ve had just some outstanding coaching, one-on-one coaching in their various sports disciplines. And along with that, adapting to a very rigorous training schedule leading up to the Games.

(J) Before we go, on September 13, federal government employees, friends and family are invited to participate in the 2nd edition of Move for What Matters! in support of the 2018 National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign.

(S) This 5-km walk/run event will be held in cities throughout the country. To find out more, and to register, visit the related links.

(J) That’s it for us. Thank you so much for watching. See you next time…
